I know, I know. Chiropractic and car accidents – it’s a cliché. But there’s actually a good reason for that: chiropractic works … especially for correcting injuries from a car accident.

I started chiropractic treatments after a particularly nasty car accident, on my birthday, no less! I was at a red light, with a car in front of me. It was still red when the car speeding down the road careened into my rear bumper. He never even hit the brakes. I was driving an older model VW, which I adored; unfortunately, it did not have air bags (yeah, I said it was older!) My head hit the steering wheel & that’s all I remember.

Aside from waking up in the hospital with a splitting headache, I didn’t have any other injuries … or so I thought. Two weeks later, I woke up with a little crick in my neck. By noon, my head was resting on my shoulder, because that was the only position I could be in without being in agony. The pain was so severe, I had difficulty standing and nearly passed out. My boss called in reinforcements and drove me to his chiropractor.

Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t instantly cured after that one appointment, but I could move my head again, and I didn’t feel like someone had shoved an icepick into my neck (yes, this was an improvement for sure.) I continued to see the chiropractor a couple of times a week for a couple of months, then just once a week for “maintenance.” Eventually, I just went once every two weeks, then once a month. What I discovered was that my body was so much happier when I was properly aligned.

I realized that because I had been a “good patient” in the beginning, my pain lessened faster. I made sure that I went to the office when I was scheduled. I made time for myself, time for healing. After all, I’m worth it. And because I kept regular appointments, my spine re-learned proper alignment. It’s not hard to do, and again, I’m worth it.

Here’s the moral of the story: if you’re in a car accident, pay attention to your body’s signals. If you think you “slept funny” a couple of weeks after the accident, it may be your body telling you that it needs some professional help. Gulph Mills Chiropractic Center offers new patients a Complimentary Initial Assessment, including x-rays. There’s no catch. We’ll take some x-rays of your spine to make sure nothing looks hinky. When we review the x-rays with you, you’re not obligated to us for treatment. There’s nothing to lose. Give us a call to see if we can help you heal. You’re worth it. 484-751-5037
