So many people figure they don’t need a chiropractor because they can “crack” their own back. That is true, but you could also fill your own cavities – it doesn’t mean you should. Would you attempt your own appendectomy? Probably not. You’d trust the doctor who completed medical school for that, right?

A licensed chiropractor completes more than 4600 hours of education to earn their degree.

Still not convinced? My DIY appendectomy didn’t convince you? Okay, let’s look a little deeper into why you should trust a chiropractor to align your spine.

Your spine is amazingly complex. It consists of 33 bones (vertebrae), each setting on top of another. Between those bones are soft cushions, called discs. The discs help to support your spine so you can stand and sit upright without pain (grinding bones are never a good thing). The bone itself is pretty darned strong, but running down the center of those bones is a really important squishy part, the spinal cord. The spinal cord transmits neurological signals to all of your vital organs and tissues and enables sensation, movement, and brain-body coordination.

Smashed in between the spinal bones and discs there is a network of nerves that send signals back and forth between the body and the spinal cord to the brain. When nerves are blocked (“pinched”), your body sends a pain signal to the brain. Proper chiropractic care prevents pinched nerves, but untrained “back cracking” can actually cause nerves to become pinched.

When a licensed chiropractor adjusts your spine, very specific movements are made to the vertebrae to properly align the spine. You may notice that Dr. Roger presses on different spots along your spine while he’s doing your exam. He’s locating subluxations. Every once in a while, he’ll find a spot on your back that makes you jump a smidge – that’s a pinched nerve in the making.

Sometimes when he’s adjusting your spine, you’ll hear a distinct “crack,” but other times you won’t hear anything. Even if you don’t hear the snap, he’s made an adjustment to your vertebrae to realign the spine properly. Just because you twist yourself into a pretzel and hear a snapping sound doesn’t mean that you’ve adjusted your spine. You may have actually caused a subluxation!

So once again, you wouldn’t set your own broken leg – you’d let a professional with proper training take care of you. Let Gulph Mills Chiropractic take care of you. You’re worth it! Your Initial Assessment is complimentary – that’s right, the exam and x-rays are on us! You really have nothing to lose, so give Dr. Roger a call: 484-751-5037.
