I suffered for years with a shoulder that just didn’t want to move above shoulder height. My “regular doctor” (MD) had no suggestions to resolve the issue, and I had been to a couple of different chiropractors, but they didn’t specialize in extremity manipulation, so there was no relief. When I finally met Dr. Roger Walker, it never even occurred to me to mention my shoulder issue; it had been that way for so long, I kind of forgot that it was supposed to move higher.

At my very first adjustment with Dr. Roger, he asked about my shoulder, noting that the muscles seemed tight and appeared to be causing me some discomfort. My reply, “Oh, yeah, I forgot about that … it’s just … stuck.” Dr. Roger adjusted my spine and asked if it would be okay for him to adjust my shoulder, to which I replied “You can DO that?”

Long story short, my arm now extends fully over my head and I have no pain ... just as it should be!

No matter which part of your body is the root of your pain, suffering through it can often seem like an endless struggle, especially if your doctor tells you there’s “nothing that can be done.” In situation such as these, it’s easy to get hopeless, and to simply resign yourself to a life of discomfort and limited movement.

Thankfully, Dr. Roger Walker of Gulph Mills Chiropractic can help you achieve pain relief through extremity adjustments and other spinal and joint manipulations. Call today for a Complimentary Initial Assessment to learn how seeing a chiropractor specializing in extremity manipulation can not only benefit your neck and back, but your whole-person health as well.

What Are Extremity Adjustments?

Extremity adjustment, also known as extremity manipulation, is the art of manipulating the joint of an extremity to instill motion within the joint. One common ailment that extremity adjustments are effective for is adhesive capsulitis, also known as frozen shoulder syndrome.

Frozen shoulder syndrome generally occurs in the following three stages:

Painful stage – When shoulder movement begins to hurt and, therefore, range of motion becomes limited.

Frozen Stage – Pain may decrease, due to immobility of the shoulder, causing the shoulder to become “frozen.”

“Thawing” stage – Extremity adjustments can help the range of motion and begin “thawing” the frozen shoulder.

How Extremity Adjustment Can Help You

While patients typically don’t see dramatic, fast pain relief in their frozen shoulder after the first manipulation, marked improvement is generally noted with initial treatment at Gulph Mills Chiropractic Center. Maintaining to a regular treatment schedule administered by a professional results in significant alleviation over time, with many patients even reporting total relief.

And extremity adjustment isn’t just beneficial to people who are suffering extreme shoulder pain. Although frozen shoulders are the most common extremity adjustments performed, there are several extremity issues which can be treated with manipulation at Gulph Mills Chiropractic Center for pain relief and increased range of motion, including Tennis Elbow, pain from a displaced hip, injuries to ankles and wrists, and many more.
