Ah, Autumn. Finally, you can go outside without becoming a puddle. The air is crisp, the sun is shining, and it’s the perfect time to find fun ways to exercise outside. I know what you’re thinking. “Wait, back up. Exercise? Summer’s over; I don’t need to squeeze myself into a swimsuit anymore. Why would I want to do that?” Well, pull up a chair & I’ll tell you some good reasons to keep yourself moving this Fall.

Granted, once the Summer heat begins to turn to crisp, cool days of Autumn, you probably just think about apple picking (yay, pie!), and pumpkin carving (yay, pumpkin seeds!), and cozying up to a nice fire (yay, s’mores!). If you’re like me, Autumn is the beginning of what I like to call “Food Wonderland.”

When I was in my 20s, and even into my 30s, exercise was strictly a Summer event – if I was really motivated, I might’ve done some late Spring walks and bike rides. The other months were for hibernation and gorging myself on the delicious holiday foods that always seemed to be finding their way into my kitchen. As the 30s are now in my rear-view mirror, I’ve noticed that warm weather exercise alone isn’t going to cut it anymore.

If you’re in that same boat with me, let’s go! Get yourself moving; it’s not too late. If you’re ahead of the curve, keep moving! Don’t stop, because believe me … it gets harder and harder. Extra weight is so much harder to lose than to just keep off with a little exercise.

This brings me to my next reason to get moving in the Autumn … stop me if you’ve heard this before: an object in motion remains in motion. This is my gentle way of reminding you that if you keep to a schedule, exercise is so much easier. If you start and stop and try to start again, you’ll generally regret it, take my word for it.

So challenge yourself to get outside & move! Physical activity obviously helps to keep your weight managed, but movement can also help to relieve and even prevent low back pain. Spinal misalignments make it harder to move! Keep your spine moving with chiropractic; call Gulph Mills Chiropractic to schedule your Complimentary Initial Assessment today. 484-751-5037

Easy ways to get moving this Autumn!

  • Take advantage of a sunny, temperate day & go for a walk after lunch.
  • Too cold or rainy to walk outside? Head over to your local Mall & walk the halls.
  • Here’s a surprising one … do some yardwork! All that squatting & raking counts!
  • Move your yoga mat outside and enjoy the crisp autumn air as you stretch.
  • Try biking now – it’s cooler & less stressful to your lungs & heart.
